Anatomy
Overview:
Ealeochs are creatures that range in size and appearance. From being bigger than an elephant with extremely large chunky muscles, to being the size of a great dane with a slender elegant body. There are a few features on an ealeoch that cross between body types, large teeth of a carnivore, claws ranging in size and length on their paws, and a nose of a large bovine. As of right now there have been 4 identified body types of Ealeoch. The coloration of Ealeochs are most commonly natural colors, but there have been a few blessed with unnatural coloration, which is able to pass to their calves.

Classic:
The classic body type is the most common type of Ealeoch you can see in the world. It's very distinct large chunky body with hunched neck and sloping back make it very easy to spot. With this body type it is incredibly common to see large horns, longer claws on the front paws, and lots of fluff. However classics can also come with the exact opposite trait characteristics, giving it a large range of appearances. Doe:
The third most common body type Ealeochs can be seen having. This body type is considerably smaller and more slender than all three other body types. Doe type Ealeochs are most well known for their elegant trait features and their speed. Due to their slender body type and legs packed with slender muscles, they have been known to outrun most any predators. Something unique to the doe type, while any Ealeoch can have hooves instead of paws, Doe types are the only type to have cloven hooves naturally! |
Big Cat:
The second most common body type Ealeochs can be seen having. Very similar to the classic body type, but without the hunched neck, and more slender body features definitely not classified as chunky. This body type is especially known for it's ability to have incedibly long fangs/ tusks and a very powerful bite. Draconic:
The rarest of all documented Ealeoch body types. This body type is definitely the most unique. Most similar to that of the big cat body type, this type has slightly shorter legs, and are build out of solid muscle. Their most defining features by far are the scales that cover their body. These scales can come in many different places and patterns, but they are always present. This type is also the only type that can posses almost dragon like wings naturally. Hence the term Draconic. |
Ealeochs
Ealeochs are sentient quadruped beings that have been around as long as documented history. These giant beasts can be most compared to a hybrid between a buffalo, a bear, and a large cat. They can be found in a few different body shapes, as well as have many trait features, and even have been known to come in varieties that have either paws or hooves! Sometimes even both! The only trait feature that is 100% characteristic of an Ealeoch is it's nose. No matter the body type or trait features, they will always have the nose of a large bovine.
Temperament:
Ealeoch being sentient have a wide range of temperaments. Some stay true to their nature of being wild beasts, and only look after number one. Others find comfort in herds big and small of other Ealeoch. Some even find happiness being domesticated by humans as pets/ mounts/ hunters.
Climate and Dietary needs:
Ealeoch can be found in all climates. They have evolved over time to adjust where-ever they live. Those found in the northern regions have grown long or thick coats with extra fluff to combat the cold. Those found in southern or hot areas have done the exact opposite and have thinner shorter coats, though not to say fluffier ealeoch cannot live there, they have an internal cooling organ that allows them to cool off much better than humans. As for Diet Ealeochs are omnivores. They thrive on hunting, usually smaller animals like deer, rabbits, sometimes other ealeochs if their temperament pushes them to do so. But they can also live on plants, grass etc.
Random Facts:
Life Span: 50-90 years
Top running speed: 45MPH for all body types except for Doe, who have a max running speed of 60MPH.
Biteforce: Their bite force is roughly 1,356 pounds.
Gender terms: | Male-Bull | Female-Cow | Baby: Calf |

What is the relationship between Ealeochs and Humanoids?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IN the world of Mythra, every species is open to interact with one another however the environment allows, within very little limitation. Ealeoch - being sentient creatures - have the ability to think and decide for themselves when it comes to interacting with other species. It is not uncommon for Ealeoch to partner with other sentient species in symbiotic relationships. However, individuals of both Ealeoch and Humanoid races can be cruel, and while some choose to live together, some are hostile to one another. On rare occasions, Humanoids will hunt and trap Ealeoch, and sometimes an Ealeoch may prey on Humanoids

What is the herding mentality of Ealeochs? Mating Practices?
Ealeoch can travel alone, in small groups, or in large herds. In a herd, every member generally has a role or purpose to keep smooth operations within the group. These roles are very important and consist of the following!:
Patriarch/Matriarch -
The role of Patriarch and Matriarch is specified to the leader/s of the herd. The oldest child of the past Patriarch/Matriarch inherits the title and the herd. If mated, or when they are mated their partner can choose to be called the opposite of the paired name (Patriarch/Matriarch) their mate inherits or simply be called alpha! Patriarchy/Matriarchy can be challenged if one within the herd thinks they are better fit to rule, this challenge would be completed via trial by combat, the winner becoming the new Patriarch/Matriarch, and the loser either dying or if mercy is upheld they would be banished from the herd.
Healers -
Healers are Ealeoch who have taken a vow to always help a creature in need. They are trained in both traditional and sometimes magical healing arts, being able to mix tinctures and poultices to soothe wounds and cure illness. While the primary focus is Ealeoch and Whiffles within the herd, a Healer will almost always help any injured creature it comes across, as these Ealeoch are very sensitive and compassionate individuals.
Seers -
A rare position among a herd is that of Seer. Most herds will not have a Seer, though large herds or ones who have been formed around ancient magical artifacts may have one or more. A Seer is an Ealeoch who can communicate with spirits and utilize otherworldly magics, such as being able to predict the weather or the migration of a lesser species herd. Magic used in this way must be harnessed from an artifact, which is why the position is a prized one to have. Some herds will have Ealeochs who claim to be Seers in order to gain social status, but the Seer is indeed false. An Apprentice Seer is chosen because of a seen affinity for magic. This is often brought on by prophetic dreams, or the ability to harness the powers of a herd’s artifact.
Hunters -
The role of Hunter is not just given to any Ealeoch. This position - being one of the most valuable to a herd - is given to some of the smartest, fastest, and strongest members. The herd’s survival depends on the capability of the hunting parties formed by these Ealeoch, and it is a great honor to be chosen. The work, however, is not always glorious and exciting. A sublet of hunting is gathering - though often done by the Apprentices - where roots, berries, and vegetation are gathered to round out the herd’s dietary needs. To become a Hunter, an Apprentice must train under both a Warrior and a Healer, to learn both combat and how to identify edible plants.
Guardians -
Arguably the most important role in the herd is that of a Guardian. These Ealeoch have been chosen for their compassion, strong wills, and strong minds. A Guardian’s job is to watch over the herd’s calves, but also prep them to become Apprentices. A calf’s time under their Guardian is an imperative one, where their budding personality shows where in the herd they will be placed. As Apprentices, Guardians must train under a Warrior, a Healer, and another Guardian, making them the most diverse skill set in the herd.
Warriors -
Mighty Ealeoch who are well suited for the field of combat find themselves in the Warrior role. These members are tasked with the duty of defending their herd with tooth and claw against any transgressors who may cause threat or harm. An Apprentice for the Warrior role is a calf who has shown physical prowess, or in some cases a strategic mind, but always a thirst for battle.
Patrol -
Patrol Ealeoch are often more quick on their feet, being able to move swiftly through the territory and defend the borders from unwanted trespassers. An Apprentice Patrol Ealeoch must train under a Warrior and a Patrol in order to gain their role, so that they are able to fight when needed, and gain insight on the herd’s territory.
Scouts -
Ealeoch who show a rambunctious spirit and wanderlust often grow to become Scouts. The job of the Scout is to go beyond the safety of the territory’s borders and perform reconnaissance. This both informs the herd of possible threats, but also allows the territory to expand safely. To become a scout, an Apprentice must train under a Patrol and a Warrior, so that they can learn to fight and how to be resourceful away from the herd.
Apprentices -
A valuable position in the herd is that of the Apprentice. Once a calf reaches a certain aptitude, they are given the role of Apprentice, where they begin training under a specific role or roles to gain their own place within the herd. An Apprentice is often sent to do menial tasks for their busy mentors, but much is learned practically as well. There is no age restriction on when a calf becomes an Apprentice. It is simply judged by the Guardians when a calf is ready to be trained in a certain role. It is important to note - at least in common practice - that calves who are approaching ascendance will be approached by their Guardian, and the roles the Guardian believes are the best fit will be discussed for the calf to choose their destiny.
When choosing a mate, Ealeochs can be either monogamous of polymerous, depending on that specific Ealeoch’s preferences. Being sentient creatures, they have the ability to choose how they wish to live with a mate, however most Ealeoch mate for life no matter how many partners they have.
The courtship of an Ealeoch depends on two things:
(Admin note- Please keep in mind that this is just lore, ultimately mated ealeochs are always at the consent and discretion of all owners involved.)
1- If they live in a herd that favors the old traditions, the mating rituals are similar to that of a deer herd/wolf pack. The strongest has their first pick of their choice in mate, and this continues down the line till all are spoken for. This is more of a traditional custom that has passed down for generations, and most of the time is confined to the oldest herds, but it is considered the “proper” way to do things.
2. On their own there is definitely more like a standard “courtship” like humans would court each other.
When a mate is chosen, a ritual can be performed to seal the union and bless it for all time. If an Ealeoch couple wishes to do this they do the following:
Under the light of a full moon, which bounces off a body of water, a couple who wishes to mate for life utter a certain phrase in front of a trusted witness while holding each other's paws,
"With the blessing of Mythra;
I pledge my love to thee;
And I take thee;
For this day;
And for all days."
While not required, there are certain things to enhance the ritual, One of the pair would be adorned in feathers, the other adorned in flowers, then after completing the phrase, taking a sip of water from the near by water source. This represents Fauna, Flora, and the Elements, the embodiment of Mythra, to bless the union for all time.
Love is a very powerful emotion for Ealeochs, and choosing a mate or mates is a very important part of their lives.
What level of magic do Ealeochs possess, and how is it used?
Magic is a profound resource in the world of Mythra. It reaches into every plant, creature, and object that resides there. However, some species were given greater use and control of these magics than others. In the many types of humanoids that wander the earth, magic is a staple in their daily lives. They have full access to the magics of the realm from healing, to destruction, to practical uses. Humanoids are the most blessed creatures with these abilities.
Other sentient creatures like Ealeochs do not have any inherent affinity for magic, unless they are a Demigod or an offspring of a Demigod. This does not mean that magic is an impossibility though, as there are many relics and artifacts scattered across the world that can give a creature magical abilities when utilized. At current, very few of these artifacts have been uncovered, but given time more and more can be discovered in the hidden reaches of the realm.
